Call for Art: Baba Jaga

Near the middle of Chapter Two, we find out that Dymitr is in search of Baba Jaga… He explains:

…most humans aren’t stupid enough to look for Baba Jaga. She’s a powerful witch—the powerful witch. She who defeated Korschei the Deathless; she who lures children and maidens and knights alike into dark tangles of trees and sells them favors at too high a cost; who rides a mortar and pestle and lives in a house that stands on chicken legs. Fearsome, eternal, capricious Baba Jaga.

As we follow his perilous quest, I want to put out a call for artistic renditions of Baba Jaga, one of the coolest baddies in any mythology… please send your submissions to:

One of my absolute favorite treatments was done by Mike Mignola in his Hellboy series. Supremely creepy and awesome. (Examples below!) Can’t wait to see how Veronica’s version stacks up… and y’all’s as well!

It is interesting that Baba Yaga’s legendary walking hut does not make an appearance in When Among Crows. However, (and I find this delightfully clever) since Baba Yaga’s Chicago residence is situated above a Harold’s Chicken, it is still supported by at least some form of chicken legs.
